Are you looking for fun color activities? Color of the Day was designed to be a part of your daily morning meeting or carpet time for preschool and kindergarten leveled children. Color of the Day is a great introduction and/or review activity to learn about colors.
The boys and girls will work on many skills:
Color identification
The ability to visually discriminate between colors
Color sorting
Use fine motor skills and pincer grip to draw a picture
Follow multiple step directions
I start out the year using Color of the Day. I start using this activity the second week of school, and for the first week I demonstrate how to use each area. The child that is the calendar helper for the day, also complete the skill of the day.
To fit in any area of the classroom all of the signs in the unit come into two different sizes and come in Color of the Day and Color of the Week.
First, choose the color you would like to start with and determine how many days you want to spend on each color.
Next, the boys and girls will search through many pictures to find objects that match the color.
Prior to the lesson place crayons in a library envelope next to sheets of paper attached to the wall. The boys and girls will use the color of the day to draw or write something of their choice.
The boys and girls will also share what their favorite color is.
Then, choose 4 colors (one of them being the color of the day) for the boys and girls to sort.
I stapled a laminated white square of paper to the wall. Prior to the activity I used sticky putty to attach pictures for each of the 4 colors (laminated prior to the activity).
