Plants is a great spring unit for your kindergarten students.  This unit is based around essential questions and includes vocabulary cards with real pictures.  Plants also includes anchor charts to help reinforce concepts, labels for sorting, observation based activitiesscience experiments and fun hands on craftivities that students will love! The boys and girls will learn the basic facts of what plants need to leave.

 

They will use this information to complete several activities. One of the activities is this cute flipbook.
My kids LOVE to label this flower.  
I have the boys and girls use this as we use the labels above to introduce what plants need to live.
Another important concept in a plant unit are the parts of a plant.  The boys and girls fill in this printable as we discuss all of the parts of a plant.

 

To review we label this plant at some point throughout the week.

 

To check for understanding I have the boys and girls label the parts of a plant with a cute craft activity.
To build on plant part comprehension, we look closer at the jobs of each of the plant parts.

 

 

There are several activities that they will complete to help them retain the information.

 

The spring is the perfect time to discuss the parts of a plant that we eat for food.

 

At some point in the unit we like to talk about the life cycle of a plant.  The Tiny Seed, by Eric Carle is a great story to read with these activities.
 
The boys and girls will complete several activities to learn more about plant life cycle.
We love the live aspect of watching a plant grow.  They can see the seed sprout and discuss the parts of a plant.

 

We use a variety of printables to observe the plant growth.
The plant unit is the perfect time to review living and non-living.

 

There are several comprehension pages to check for understanding as well as an experiment.

 

As they grasp the concepts, they can write about them.

 

 

There are also several math and literacy centers.
